3 essential tips to become unbeatable at darts

Thursday morning, 9:30 am, open-space coffee machine. It's time for you to wipe the floor with the taunts of your colleagues, who gave you a serious thrashing during the previous day's team-building event with a game of darts. A new concept freshly arrived in Paris, game bars are the capital's newest unusual activities.

As usual, your company organized another afterwork party in one of those unusual darts bars. This was without counting on your agility and iron precision, which earned you a mediocre final score while Louis blew everyone away with his Triple 20.

Of course you've had a great company evening! Of course, the most important thing is to take part, but it's normal to wonder "How can I become unbeatable at darts?

Whether at work, with family or friends, come and discover the essential tips that will make you the king of darts throwing!

1. Darts: counting points, target composition, distance for a legal throw

A classic target consists of 6 circles and 20 triangular-shaped sectors. Each zone is linked to a number of points: 1, 5, 20 .... But it gets more complicated!

In fact, some of the circles allow you to score more points: If you start from the outside, the first circle counts as "double". Then, the second is worth the value of its sector.

The third circle is the one worth the most points! It's a "Triple", like Louis' famous triple 20! 60 points in a single shot - a dart player's dream!

To finish, another circle without multiplier, then the outer center with 25 points, then the red zone: the bullseye with 50 points!

But that's not all! Let's talk about the distance of the game of darts. To play like a professional, you need to follow the rules laid down by those same professionals.

It's good to know, therefore, that the heart of the target must be installed at precisely 1.73 metres from the ground and the distance between the shooter and the target must be 2.37 metres.

Now you know the rules of the game! Now let's concentrate on your champion's moves.

2. Despite the techniques we'll give you here, the most important thing in darts is to be confident.

First, position yourself on your support foot, right foot in front if you're right-handed, left foot in front if you're left-handed. Hold one hand against your body for balance. Your throw should always be straight and in line with your arm.

Only your forearm should move when throwing the arrow, and follow through to the end. Avoid awkward movements. A dart weighs between 16 and 30 grams, so there's no need to force it. A single elbow flexion-extension is all you need.

There are no specific rules for finger position. You can hold the dart with 3 fingers, 4 fingers or even like a pen. Try different grips and see what works best for you.

Finally, don't hesitate to move your body forward without biting the limit!

According to champion Van Gerwen, to be the best you need to have a winning mentality. Indeed, he told the Professional Darts Corporation: "I think I handle pressure better than the others. That's what makes me the best player on the circuit.
